value, sheerness, thickness, all 5 stars for what I paid. While this is on the small side of vices, it is perfect for what I need.A small vice for small projects like wood and metal, and the face even has some cutouts to help center tiny things without needing anything extra.I've used this vice moderately and really cranked on the handle for some steel plates (for my dirtbike) and the threads hold up great. The vice keeps everything stationary while I grind on it, and for the asking price, I am pleased with its size and performance. Would highly recommend for anyone on a budget as long as they realize the maximum size. It's small, but it's tough as it gets. The ceramic paint coating is glossy and very easy to keep clean.I bought this and the six inch version. Both are sturdy and in square. Do yourself a favor and remove the allen screw holding the threaded pusher in place. Get the pusher out of the way and put some grease in the hole on the sliding jaw. The allen screw on the 6 inch version hold a ball bearing in place. Don't lose the ball bearing.I'd give five starts if the slots were a 1/16" wider. I could not use 1/2" diameter studs to hold down either vise without first filing away forging flash and the finish. I have to use 1/2" studs because my drill press table has 5/8" t-slots, not through slots.I have had and used these Wilton vises for many years and they are good reliable vises. the jaws are square and parallel. The only draw back might be the guide rod that runs under the moving jaw, you must be careful when drilling thru a piece, to not drill into the guide rod. As long as you are aware of this design this is a very versatile vise.Smooth operation with no misalignment or ride up of the jaws. Some have complained that the following rod runs through the center of the vise where the drill bit could damage it during drilling. So? I adjust my table for every drilling or tapping job. I adjust the bottom stop so that the bit stops short of striking the following rod. Problem solved. Doesn't even require an extra step. The side slots on the vise didn't mate up exactly with my Ryobi table. I simply placed both bolts on one side of the vise. If, down the road, I have problems with centering on a job, I will just drill out larger diameter holes in the slots of the vise. It is only about 1/8" off. Or using a smaller diameter bolt might do it.I picked this drill press vise to drill into metal. It fits my bottom of the line, 5-speed, 8" Central Machinery Drill Press from Harbor Freight that sells for around . This 3" size fit the drill table well. For that drill press table, you'll need 4 hex bolts that are 1-3/4" long including the bolt head, with the threaded part being 7/16" in diameter. Also you'll need two washers and a nut to fit that size bolt properly. The outside diameter of the washers should be 1". I attached the bolts, one in each slot with a wrench so that the crank of the Wilton vise was facing me. One washer under each bolt head, one above each nut, the nut facing down under the table. Tighten secure but do not over tighten the bolts. Center the drill carefully and pre-punch the work with a centering punch to keep the drill bit from wondering too much. I prefer to use Molybdenum bits to drill metal as they're stiffer, less prone to overheat, stay sharp, and last a long time. Set the belt of the drill press on the slowest speed to drill metal. Overheating the bit increases the likelihood the bit will break and wear prematurely. For safety's sake, wear eye protection, don't force the bit into the work, and drill a tiny bit at a time. Raise and lower the drill bit like a woodpecker. If it smokes you're going too fast. I also recommend using a couple drops of Tap Magic cutting fluid (for use with steel, or Alumatap brand for aluminum) to keep the bit cool, lubricated, and to prevent it from smoking. I don't know which drill presses this vice will fit on. But the spacing of the slots on this one works with the press I mentioned above. The jaws have good depth which I needed. Be careful as to your drilling depth, if you go to far you can hit the metal rod of this vice. There is a drill depth indicator on the drill press. Move the drill head up and down to see that you won't hit it before you apply power. Good quality unit, did the job well, though I had to glue the balls on the handle back on with superglue gel, which was easy enough. Also I put some synthetic grease on the screw.I never knew how nice it is to have a vice that's not bolted down to a workbench. It's nice to have small projects in a vice that you can move around quickly. Really handy if you're filing something. I've also used it for holding long sections of pipe while soldering, something that a bolted down bench vice couldn't do. I don't own a drill press, so I can't say how well it works on one. The vice opens and closes smoothly and the jaws seems reasonably straight. You can quickly clamp it down to a workbench if you need to as well. I'm not sure how I lived without this thing for so long.I just received this Wilton Model LP3 vise this morning. The product was well packaged and there were no flaws on the finish. The vise was lubed with light machine oil and operated smoothly. I can't attest the accuracy yet, but the jaws close with no gap on either end. Will update this review after I've used it a few times. It fits the table of my Rikon 30-100 bench top drill press. Center to center measurements of the slots on the drill press and the slots in the vise don't match, but the slots in the drill press are wider, allowing the vise to fit. I use some bolts and washers and wing nuts, not provided, to fasten the vise in position. Sorry to see the vise made in China. The screw did not turn smoothly at first, but that was due to some loose metal chips in the treads; once brushed away it worked smoothly. The jaws meet perfectly together, not even a tiny gap on either side. The rear jaw has V grooves to help hold round stock in a vertical or a horizontal position. Solid vise that should outlast the drill press.
